Virat Kohli Loses Personal Battle; Country Takes The Glory
It is often called the battle of ice and fire with both players enjoying their share of success and the same was on display in the Champions Trophy 2025 game. Virat Kohli did not succeed on the personal front, but Kane Williamson did and delivered a lone-warrior effort, and after the hard-fought game, the two were seen hugging each other tightly, bringing back golden memories for fans.
The moment came when the two teams were shaking hands after the game, and though everyone was quite cordial with each other, Virat Kohli and Williamson's special bond was quite evident. Over the years, both the teams have fought some big battles which include 2019 and 2023 World Cup semifinals as well as the final of 2021 WTC, but the relation between the two has only grown with each passing game.
The two teams went against each other with semifinal qualification already book, though it still turned out to be a battle of supremacy which produced a roller-coaster ride. India started off poorly with the bat, but they managed to get to a competitive total, courtesy a brilliant fifty by Shreyas Iyer, and handy contributions lower down the order.
Matt Henry took a fifer, but New Zealand batters could not find their mojo on a tough pitch and it was only Kane Williamson who displayed application with his 81. Varun Chakaravarthy though unleashed his magic and picked up a memorable fifer making it a Champions Trophy debut to remember.
