The echoing chants of "Kohli, Kohli" reverberated through the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, summing a moment that can only be described as sheer cricketing ecstasy. 

Kohli stepped out to deafening cheers in Delhi

Local hero and Indian stalwart, Virat Kohli, was greeted with an ovation so rapturous, it felt as though the very foundations of the stadium trembled in excitement.

During Match 10 of World Cup 2023 vs Afghanistan, it was a homecoming for Delhi's prodigal son, Kohli. Setting the stage was a masterclass in partnership from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Together, they stitched a staggering 156-run partnership, which featured strokes all over the park, particularly from Rohit.



However, it was the dismissal of Kishan by the Afghanistan spinner, Rashid Khan, that set the stage for Kohli's much-anticipated arrival. And arrive he did, not just to the crease, but in his signature style. 

Kohli's immediate assertion of dominance was marked by a scintillating cover drive, piercing the field, and finding the boundary against Rashid. It was a shot that served as a reminder of Kohli's batting brilliance and sent a clear message to the opposition: he was here to stamp his authority.

As the innings progressed, India's position appeared to solidify further. By the 22nd over, the scoreboard read a promising 178/1, with Rohit Sharma showcasing his captain's knock, notching up an impressive 115. Kohli, though just getting started, looked comfortable and composed, unbeaten on 8.

Earlier in the day, Afghanistan, after a spirited performance, set a target of 273, posting 272/8 in their 50 overs. While the Afghan team has shown tenacity, the day, so far, has belonged to India
