A high-profile visit by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to India is on the cards later this month, with diplomatic circles abuzz with the prospect of Sunak attending the India-England World Cup 2023 match in Lucknow on October 29.

Rishi Sunak's visit to coincide with India-England clash

This anticipated visit comes on the heels of a recent meeting between Sunak and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 summit where the duo touched upon the ongoing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.

According to a report in the Times of India, sources reveal that the primary agenda for Sunak's trip would be to advance discussions on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and other bilateral matters. However, with the match scheduled for October 29th, a day after the proposed visit date, the convergence of diplomacy and sport cannot be overlooked.

“If he does come, Sunak may also travel to Lucknow to watch the India-England cricket match on October 29. Nothing is final yet. We are hoping for more progress in the FTA negotiations before the visit happens,” said the source.

Sunak's potential attendance at the India-England game will certainly make it a spectacle to remember. The match promises thrilling cricketing action, while the off-field diplomacy might offer some fascinating subplots.

Meanwhile, England, having faced a setback with their loss against New Zealand in the tournament opener, bounced back remarkably to register a dominating 137-run victory over Bangladesh.

On the other hand, India, exhibiting top-notch form, outplayed Australia in their inaugural match. The team's morale is sky-high, and they will be eager to continue their winning streak as they lock horns with Afghanistan on Wednesday.
