The drama surrounding the controversial catch attempt by Steve Smith to dismiss Virat Kohli took another intriguing turn when the two players engaged in a brief exchange on the field. After the TV umpire ruled Kohli not out, following a review of the catch, Kohli couldn’t resist asking Smith for some clarity as the Australian cricketer walked back to his position.

With a wry smile, Kohli, who had narrowly escaped being dismissed, asked Smith about the legitimacy of the catch as caught on camera. Kohli's tone was lighthearted yet laced with a hint of sarcasm. Kohli’s expression appeared to suggest that he was keen to know whether Smith was truly convinced the catch had been clean, or if the frustration was simply a product of the moment.

Smith, unfazed by the question, calmly shrugged his shoulders in response, his face displaying a mixture of confidence and frustration. He remained steadfast in his belief that the catch had been taken cleanly, despite the umpire's ruling.

"I’m 100 percent sure it was clean," Smith later said in an interview, reinforcing his position that the ball had not touched the ground when he scooped it up. Had the catch been given out, it would have been a significant blow to India, with Kohli’s experience in the middle crucial after the early dismissals of the openers.

Virat Kohli Fails To Live Up To The Expectations

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli didn't survive the Boland storm and was dismissed by the pacer in the 32nd over. A back of the length ball was nicked off by Kohli which got a big chunk of the outside edge and was delivered straight to the second slip where Beau Webster was positioned. Webster palmed the ball safely sending back Kohli for 17 runs.

At the time of writing, India is barely surviving the first Day as Rishabh Pant stays on the crease with Ravindra Jadeja coming in after Kohli. With the batting lineup closing in on the tail-enders, hopes are not very high that India can post a formidable total at the end of stumps today.
