India's talismanic batter Virat Kohli recorded another failure, as he was dismissed for a cheap score in the second ODI against England at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Coming at number three, Kohli managed only five runs before Rashid bowled a ripper to send him packing.
The incident occurred during the twentieth over of India's innings when Virat Kohli had joined skipper Rohit Sharma in the middle following Shubman Gill's dismissal. England captain Jos Buttler's decision to bring Adil Rashid into the attack paid rich dividends as the ace leg spinner got rid of Kohli with a magnificent delivery.
From over the wicket, Adil Rashid bowled a beautifully tossed-up delivery, inviting Kohli for a drive. As the legendary Indian batter took a giant forward stride, the ball turned sharply to take the outside edge of his bat.
After the umpire declared him not out, the English players challenged the decision by going upstairs. In the replay, the ultra-edge identified a clear spike, prompting the TV umpire to overturn the decision.
Although Kohli had nicked it, he couldn't believe it when the decision went against him. He expressed his surprise with an animated reaction.
Notably, this is the tenth time Adil Rashid has dismissed Virat Kohli in international cricket. Only Tim Southee and Josh Hazlewood have dismissed Kohli on more occasions (11 times each).
Rohit Sharma Keeps India Alive In Run Chase
Despite losing Kohli and Gill in quick succession, India are quite alive in the run chase, with captain Rohit Sharma leading from the front. As of writing, the hosts were 179 for two, needing 125 more runs to win.
