Jamie Overton showed his class in the second ODI between India and England and delivered a dream delivery to shatter Shubman Gill's stumps. The Indian batter looked in ominous touch and reached his fifty-run mark in no time. England needed a miracle to get his wicket and Overton raised his hands for this task.
India needed 305 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the series and both the Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Gill were off to a flying start as they played an aggressive brand of cricket and added 136 runs for the opening wicket.
Jos Buttler gave the ball to Overton as the last ditch effort and the bowler didn't disappoint and bowled it full and straight onto the stumps. Shubman Gill was late in bringing his bat down on time as his stumps got rattled by a dream ball.
The Indian opener was shell shocked and rightly so as he looked all set to breach the century mark after missing it in the previous match.
Root, Livingstone help England post 304
England, just like the first ODI decided to bat first after winning the toss and the decision paid dividend as Phil Salt and Ben Duckett added 81 runs for the first wicket and a foundation was laid for a big score.
However, once Duckett departed after reaching his fifty, wickets tumbled at regular intervals as England lost the momentum. Joe Root (69) and Liam Livingstone (41) scored crucial runs and took their team to a commanding total. For India, Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers, scalping 3 crucial wickets.
