India's legendary cricketer Virat Kohli had a forgettable day on the field, as he dropped a sitter to give Marnus Labuschagne a lifeline in the ongoing first Test against Australia at Perth Stadium. The talismanic batter failed miserably with the bat, scoring five runs in the first innings. If that wasn't enough, he committed a huge blunder on the field, dropping a simple catch to let India down.
The incident occurred during the third over of Australia's innings when Labuschagne had just joined Usman Khawaja in the middle following debutant Nathan McSweeney's cheap dismissal. From over the wicket, India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full-length delivery, drawing the batter onto his front foot. As Labuschagne attempted a defensive shot, the ball shaped away, catching him off-guard.
As a result, Australia's number three managed a thick outside edge, with the ball flying straight to the slip cordon. However, Virat Kohli emerged as the culprit for India, dropping a sitter and giving the batter a lifeline. Although Kohli caught the ball in his first attempt, he spilt it while celebrating the dismissal. Thus, he wasn't in control of the ball and didn't claim the catch.
Australia Get A Shaky Start After India's Dismal Performance
The surface at Perth Stadium has been a paradise for the fast bowlers so far. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India were bowled out for a paltry 150-run total in their first innings. However, India have got a remarkable start with the ball, as Bumrah has bagged three wickets, leaving the hosts tottering at 19 for three in their first innings.
