India's swashbuckling keeper-batter Rishabh Pant got a lucky escape, as Australian captain Pat Cummins failed to hold on to a catch in the ongoing Test match between the two sides at Perth Stadium. Coming at number five, Pant struck a blazing cameo before Cummins dropped a catch to give him a lifeline.
The incident occurred during the 39th over of India's first innings when Rishabh Pant was forming a consolidating stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy. Australian skipper Pat Cummins brought his trump card Mitchell Starc into the attack in order to break the partnership.
After starting his over with three consecutive deliveries, Starc bowled a full-length delivery, inviting Pant for a lofted shot. As the swashbuckling southpaw went the aerial route, he miscued it and the ball went high up in the air. However, Pat Cummins let his team down, failing to take the catch at mid-on.
The Aussie skipper ran backwards and stretched himself perfectly to grab an outstanding catch. However, he couldn't complete the catch, with the ball slipping through his hands and falling on the ground.

After India won the toss and opted to bat first, the Australian pacers rocked them with frequent setbacks, dismissing Jaiswal, Padikkal and Virat Kohli for single-digit scores. Dhruv Jurel could score only 11 runs, while Washington Sundar departed for 4 runs. At the time of writing, India were 121 for six, with Pant and Reddy batting on 37* and 27*, respectively.
