Virat Kohli restored the much-needed oomph to his dwindling batting form, doing so in India’s big 2025 ICC Champions Trophy game against arch-rivals Pakistan. Turning up at the Dubai International Stadium, the legendary Indian batter made his way into the crease following the early dismissal captain and opener Rohit Sharma.
Chasing 242 runs, Virat Kohli notched up a 62-ball half-century during the 27th over of the Indian innings with an astounding shot over the covers off Pakistani pace maverick Naseem Shah.
Virat Kohli celebrates fifty in style
Virat Kohli recorded his 74th ODI half-century through the course of his run-chase masterclass against Pakistan in match five of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The innings also marked his return to form after being deprive of runs in the format for the past year.
As one can expect, Kohli raised his bat to celebrate the landmark moment, drawing much applause from the Dubai crowd as well as from the teammates in the dressing room. Coach Gautam Gambhir, however, seemingly looked tense as the match demonstrated signs of heading towards an exciting finish at one stage.
Pakistan batted first and hauled 241 runs upfront after winning the toss. Saud Shakeel at number three top-scored for the ‘Men in Green’ with 62 runs off 76 balls. Captain Mohammad Rizwan also cracked 46 in the middle overs, while Khushdil Shah belted a valiant 38 at the death.
For India, ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav picked up three wickets in the innings, and he received much assistance from fast bowlers Harshit Rana (1-30) and Hardik Pandya (2-31) in the process.
The Indian run-chase began on a shoddy note, with captain Rohit Sharma making his way to the dugout for just 20, before Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill as well as Shreyas Iyer rescued the innings.
