One of the finest formats of the game, ODI cricket, has had a great legacy in cricketing history. Many records have been broken in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025, and Virat Kohli has now joined an elite list of players.
There have been quite some players who have done great things in the one-day format, with many scoring runs at a great rate, while others have done a significant job maintaining an excellent average.
However, when it comes to scoring runs quickly, not many have done a greater job than some players who have scored runs at a brisk rate in ODI cricket. In this article, we are going to find out who are the fastest players to score 14,000 runs in the ODI format since its inception. And to the surprise of many, there have been just three so far.
3. Kumar Sangakkara - 378 Innings
At number three on the list is Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara, who had scored a total of 14,234 runs in 404 ODI matches. The left-hander breached the 14,000 run mark in his 402nd match, which was his 378th innings of his ODI career. The game happened in the year 2015, when he played against Australia in Sydney. Sangakkara made his debut in the year 2000 and went on to be one of the finest players ever to come from the Island Nation.
2. Sachin Tendulkar - 350 Innings
At number two on this list is the legendary Indian former batter Sachin Tendulkar, who took 350 innings from 359 matches to surpass the 14,000 run mark. Tendulkar made his debut in the year 1989 and achieved this landmark against Pakistan in 2006 in Peshawar.
In that game, Tendulkar made a blistering century against the Men in Green, which proved unfruitful in the end for India. Nonetheless, Tendulkar had a great legacy behind him as in his overall career of 463 matches, the Master Blaster has amassed 18,426 ODI runs at an average of 44.83.
1. Virat Kohli - 287 Innings*
And finally, the number one player on the list is the newly joined legendary Virat Kohli, the Indian former skipper who is currently batting against Pakistan, who has surpassed the 14,000 run mark in his 299th game, which is his 287th innings.
Kohli, who has scored over 14,000 runs, has maintained an average of 57.78 while striking at 93.43 in his ODI career beginning in the year 2008. The right-hander has done a significant job in the 50-over format, scoring a record 50 centuries in this format, which is the most by any player.
