India had a dream start to the run-chase against Pakistan, as their top three made merry against a depleted bowling attack in the ongoing Champions Trophy encounter in Dubai. However, when Haris Rauf created an opportunity to dismiss Shubman Gill, Khushdil Shah's fielding blunder let the hosts down in this high-octane clash. 

Khushdil's Drop Catch Gives Gill A Lifeline

The incident occurred during the eleventh over of India's innings when Kohli had joined Shubman Gill to steady the ship following Rohit Sharma's dismissal. Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan's decision to bring Rauf into the attack almost did the job for the hosts, as the fast bowler nearly got rid of Gill. 

From over the wicket, Rauf bowled a back-of-the-length delivery, as Gill played his trademark short-arm jab. However, although the Indian batter timed it beautifully, the ball went straight to short mid-wicket, where Khushdil Shah dropped a sharp chance. 

After the catch was dropped, skipper Rizwan expressed his frustration, while Shaheen Afridi was utterly disappointed with the effort. However, former captain Babar Azam went towards the fielder and consoled him following the blunder.

Chasing a modest target of 242 runs, India have claimed the driving seat, thanks to scintillating starts from their top order batters. As of writing, the Men in Blue were 92 for one, with Gill and Kohli batting on 42* and 27*, respectively.
