Multan Sultans' captain Mohammad Rizwan displayed a moment of brilliance on the cricket field that reflected the class of a seasoned football defender. During the high-stakes Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024) match against Islamabad United, Rizwan executed a stunning sliding move, traditionally seen on the football pitch, to prevent a certain boundary that left both fans and commentators in awe.

Rizwan's daring slide and Mir's quick feet prevent boundaries for Multan Sultans

The match, which saw Multan Sultans taking on Islamabad United, was off to a great start as the Sultans won the toss and elected to bowl first. Despite a shaky beginning that saw Islamabad's openers Alex Hales and Colin Munro departing early, leaving their team at a dismal 32/2, it was Rizwan's exceptional footwork that stole the limelight.

The moment of magic occurred when Olly Stone bowled a full-length delivery to Jordan, who managed to edge the ball towards the fine-leg boundary. In an unexpected twist, the fine leg fielder overran the ball, presenting a golden opportunity for a boundary.

However, Mohammd Rizwan, in a display of brilliant athleticism, dashed from his position behind the stumps and launched into a perfectly timed slide, reminiscent of a footballer's last-ditch tackle, to stop the ball mere inches from the boundary line. Running in from third man, Mir, complementing Rizwan's effort, cleverly used his footwork to steer the ball away from the boundary, saving valuable runs for the team.

Meanwhile, despite some fielding lapses by the Sultans, including missed opportunities by Khushdil Shah that could have given Islamabad United an edge, it was Rizwan's football-esque slide that stole the show. The Sultans' spirited bowling attack eventually bundled out Islamabad United for 144, setting the stage for a competitive chase.

As Multan Sultans embarked on their batting, they have made a steady start, reaching 54/1 after 8 overs, with Rizwan leading from the front, batting on 33 and Hendricks on 12. With 91 runs needed off 72 balls, the stage is set for an enthralling finish.
