The Mysore Warriors took on the Shivamogga Lions in the second game of the Maharaja T20 League 2024. The match was being played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Shivamogga Lions opted to field first after winning the toss in the game. The Mysore Warriors had a steady start to their innings. But around the half-way stage, the Warriors lost a few wickets and got themselves into trouble. One of these wickets was that of their skipper, Karun Nair.

The right handed middle-order batter looked in a good touch before he was dismissed in the 11th over. Karun Nair contributed with 18 off 16, although the stats might not show, but he was looking good amidst chaos during the innings.

Karun Nair oozed class in his short stay

During his stay in the middle, Karun Nair showed the class he has with a gracious shot. On the sixth over of the innings, Nair decided to get the scoreboard moving. He slammed a boundary of the first ball. On the very next ball, he predicted a fullish delivery from the bowlers and stepped down the track to reach the ball where it landed. Karun Nair then went inside out over extra cover for a gracious maximum.

His innings did not continue for long after this. However, courtesy of a late flourish by Manoj Bhandage, the Mysore Warriors managed to post a fighting total of 159/8 on the board at the end of their 20 overs.

Before the Shivamogga Lions could start their chase, rain affected the game. The Lions needed to chase 87 runs in nine overs as per the DLS method. However, they could only manage 80/5 in their allotted deliveries and lost the game by seven runs.

Karun Nair's short live Test career

Notably, Karun Nair has played six Test matches for India. He has an average of 62.33 in these games. He is also one of the two batters from India who has a Triple Hundred in Test cricket, the other being Virender Sehwag (2 Triple Hundreds). However, Nair did not get a chance after the England series where achieved this feat in 2016.
