Just when you feel Suzie Bates is about to explode, she decided to try out a different shot and self exploded as South Africa crawled back in the contest. The senior most batter of the White Ferns side looked solid in the middle, but one mistake led to her wicket.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first on a tricky surface for the batters. The New Zealand side lost the early wicket of Georgia Plimmer, but Bates took the onus and was the chief aggressor as her side kept the scoreboard ticking.

The wicket strangely behaved on the slower side and Bates played some delightful strokes and quickly raced away to 32. However, in a bid to accelerate, Bates tried out a different stroke and threw her wicket away.

Nonkululeko Mlaba bowled a length ball on the stumps and Bates went for a fancy shot as she moved away from the stumps and tried to lap it away towards the fine leg region. However, to her dismay, she missed and the ball hit the stumps.

NZ aim to accelerate in last 10-overs

At the 10-over mark, New Zealand are 70 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Still two key players, Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine are their in the middle. On this surface where the spinners tend to dominate, the White Ferns will aim to score another 80 runs minimum.

150 runs in a finale will be a tough ask for the Proteas Women, and the New Zealand side will fancy their chances, considering they have a strong bowling attack.
