New Zealand is currently touring India for a three-match Test series. Under the leadership of Tom Latham, the team has got off to a great start. They decimated the home team in the first Test at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium and have taken a 1-0 lead in the series.
Though New Zealand made a great start to the series, one key member of their Test was missing in the first match, Kane Williamson. Notably, the veteran batter suffered a groin strain during the tour of Sri Lanka last month. He did not travel to India for the series.
New Zealand to monitor Williamson's recovery process
According to the latest reports by ESPNcricinfo, Kane Williamson will stay at home and continue his rehabilitation. The head coach of the New Zealand team, Gary Stead, said, "We're monitoring Kane, and he's tracking in the right direction, but he isn't 100% fit."
When asked about Williamson's availability, Stead said, "We're hopeful to see further improvement over the coming days and have him available for the third Test. We'll give him as much as possible time to get himself ready, but certainly continue to take a cautious approach."
Will Young's contribution in Williamson's absence
In Williamson's absence, New Zealand used Will Young at number three. The batter performed well, scoring 33 and 48 not out in the two innings. The visitors hope Young will continue his form in the next game and provide solidity to the middle order, helping the team become an unassailable lead in the series.
Williamson's Test career and performance in India
Talking about Williamson, he has played 102 Tests for New Zealand and has scored 8,881 runs in them at an average of 54.48. The veteran batter has 32 Hundreds and 35 Fifties in the format. As far as his performance in India is concerned, Williamson has scored 503 runs in eight matches at an average of 33.53 with one century and three half-centuries.
