India vs Australia is one of the most iconic rivalries in the cricketing fraternity. The Test face-off between these two teams is named the Border Gavaskar Trophy after the two cricketing legends from the two nations: Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar.
Cummins looked past Pant's iconic 89* at Gabba
When asked about an innings that he remembers from this iconic rivalry, Pat Cummins, the current Test skipper of Australia, ignored the iconic knock by Rishabh Pant (89*) at Gabba. Notably, the knock by Pant in 2021 came under pressure and led India to a memorable series win, 'Down Under'.
However, the Australian skipper looked past this memorable knock and selected the Legend Sachin Tendulkar's 241* at Sydney in 2004. In a recent interview with Star Sports, Pat Cummins was asked - 'One performance for the India-Australia rivalry that you can remember.' To this, the fast bowler replied - 'The only one I can remember is Sachin Tendulkar in Sydney'.
Sachin Tendulkar's determination amazed Cummins
Sachin Tendulkar was under pressure during the match Cummins was talking about. He had only 82 runs in the series from five innings ahead of the game. The incredible thing about the knock by Tendulkar was that he did not play his favourite shot, the cover drive, during the stellar knock, as it frequently resulted in his dismissal during the tour.
Pat Cummins seems amazed at how Tendulkar scored those runs without playing his favourite shot. The determination and grit shown by Sachin during the iconic knock is still a talking point among cricket fans as it adds to the Greatness and Mastery the man had over his game.
