Australia's legendary batter Steve Smith got out in a bizarre fashion in the ongoing fourth Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Steve Smith had a stellar outing in the MCG Test, slamming a fabulous ton and shattering multiple records in the high-voltage affair.

However, the talismanic batter witnessed a disastrous end to his prolific innings, with India's Akash Deep castling him in a rare fashion. The incident occurred during the 115th over of Australia's first innings when Smith was batting alongside Nathan Lyon.

After Ravindra Jadeja got rid of Mitchell Starc soon after the lunch break, Indian captain Rohit Sharma brought Akash Deep into the attack from the other end. His tactical move weaved magic for the tourists, with the right-arm pacer getting Smith's prized scalp at a crucial juncture of the match.

It was a casual 128.5 kph back-of-the-length delivery from Akash Deep, as Smith stepped out of his crease to flay it through the off side. However, he only managed an inside edge, with the ball deflecting off his pads before kissing the base of the leg stump.

Australia Post A Daunting Total In MCG Test

Riding on Steve Smith's stunning century and valuable contributions from Konstas, Khawaja, Labuschagne and Pat Cummins, Australia have posted a commanding total in the MCG Test. As of writing, the hosts were 474 for nine, with Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland batting on 13* and 6*, respectively.
