Akash Deep, who failed to put up a show with the ball in hand, showed his class with the bat as the Indian bowler came out of syllabus for the Aussie bowler as he smashed 31 runs off 44 balls and helped India to avoid the follow-on.
At one stage, India looked down and out, but the contributions from Ravindra Jadeja and the lower-order ensured that India now have something to fight for as Australia's second innings begins with a lead of 185.
Akash Deep's brain-fade moment
Akash Deep bowled well in the game, but was unlucky as he couldn't fetch early wickets despite beating the outside-edge several times, however, he more than made it up for it with a brilliant knock of 31. Towards the closing stages of his innings, the Indian seamer was hilariously involved in a brain-fade moment which made Travis Head angry.
Nathan Lyon, the Aussie spinner bowled a flighted delivery as Akash went for a defensive shot and the ball stuck on the flap of the front-pad. Travis Head wanted Akash Deep to give the ball to him, but the Indian cricketer didn't noticed it as he kept it on the ground. After realising what had happened, the pacer apologised to Head as the two players shared a laugh.
India head into second innings with confidence
The Indian top order batters failed to put up a fight, and the team was in a dire need of contributions from its players. In stepped, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja as the duo scored crucial fifties and the visitors also got massive contributions from Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah.
The duo added 47 runs for the 10th wicket as their contribution helped India to avoid the follow-on.
