In the thrilling Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final 2024 between Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on December 15, Mumbai’s decision to bowl first paid off early. Shardul Thakur got the ball rolling with a great start for his team, claiming two crucial wickets in his first over.
In the 2nd over of Madhya Pradesh’s innings, Shardul struck first, removing opener Arpit Gaud. It was a well-placed delivery outside the off-stump, moving away at 134 kmph. Gaud, trying to loft the ball over the infield, only managed to slice it into the air. Ankolekar, stationed at deep backward point, made no mistake and took a comfortable catch.
But Shardul wasn’t done yet. He struck again in the same over, dismissing the other opener, Harsh Gawli, for just 2 runs. Gawli went for a hard drive but ended up hitting the ball straight to Suryakumar Yadav at cover, who took an amazing, sharp catch without any fuss. The catch made sure to put MP on back foot.
Madhya Pradesh In Deep Trouble
This quick double blow put Madhya Pradesh in a tough spot early in the match, leaving them struggling with both openers back in the hut. At the time of writing, MP are at 64 for 4 in 11 overs, with Rajat Patidar and Venkatesh Iyer at the crease, 14 and 10, respectively.
