Hilton Cartwright injured in BBL opener (@Breakingbadd17/X.com)
The 14th edition of Big Bash is up and running in style, and in the first game, Perth Scorchers took on Melbourne Stars. It was a home game for Scorchers and they reduced Stars to just 146 in the first innings.
In reply, the cricket action was moving along smoothly with Scorchers looking comfortable in chase, but an incident in the 13th over where Hilton Cartwright got injured while fielding brought a layer of worry around the fans and other stakeholders playing and watching the game.
It was the third ball of the over and Hilton Cartwright in the deep tried to save a boundary by putting in a desperate dive. He could not stop the ball, but fell on his shoulder and in the process hurt his neck badly. He was down in pain right from the time he landed on his shoulder and could not get up as his teammates and physio charged towards him.

Eventually, the stretcher was brought to the ground and a neck brace was also used for Cartwright to avoid any further damage. The serious of the injury is still unknown, but it seemed serious enough to rule him out atleast for the majority of this season.
If Cartwright does get ruled out of the whole season, it would be a blow for Melbourne Stars who are already facing some availability issues. In the last season, Cartwright scored 209 runs in eight innings at a strike-rate of over 150 and at an average of 41.80. He scored 18 in the first encounter.
After Cartwright's injury, Perth Scorchers continued to bat well and eventually won the game by six wickets with 17 balls to spare.
