Bashir overstepped Vs WI [X]
Cricketers are no strangers to getting out on wrong umpiring decisions. Despite boasting high-tech technologies in the modern game, there always comes a situation when the players become a victim of howlers from the umpires.
One such incident occurred in the 2nd Test match between England and West Indies at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham. The Windies were off to a strong start after dismissing England for 416. The two openers, Kraigg Brathwaite and Mikyle Louis added 53 runs for the opening wicket.
Controversy erupts in ENG-WI Test
However, one brought the downfall of another as Louis departed for 21, and Brathwaite followed him soon to the pavilion. The controversy erupted when Shoab Bashir , who was playing just his second Test at home, dismissed Kirk McKenzie in the 25th over.
He bowled a flighted delivery, enticing the batter to go for a big shot, which he did. McKenzie goes for the slog and gets it from the toe-end of the bat and skipper Ben Stokes took the simplest of catches at mid-on.
The controversy started when it looked as if Bashir had overstepped and umpire wrongly gave him out, but after discussing for a bit, the third umpire came to the conclusion that the front-foot was just millimetre behind the line and McKenzie had to walk back.
But a fresh video has emerged, which shows that the front-foot was just ahead of the crossing line, and the umpire wrongly sent back the Windies batter.
