Indian fans have been divided into two halves since Suryakumar Yadav was elected captain of India's T20I team over Hardik Pandya, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the white-ball squad for the Sri Lanka tour.

After Suryakumar Yadav's appointment as the new T20I leader, reports emerged that claim Indian players trust the 33-year-old more than Pandya, who was Rohit Sharma's deputy during the 2023 World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, it has been understood that the feud in the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has added weight to decision-making.

"Hardik’s fitness is an issue but he played a big role in breaking India’s ICC jinx. As for Suryakumar, we have received feedback from the team that his captaincy style was well received by the dressing room," said a BCCI source involved in decision-making.

The maestro all-rounder played a massive role in India's recent T20 World Cup win in the West Indies and USA. However, the Gautam Gambhir-led team management, selectors, and BCCI decided to move past Pandya, who has led India in 16 T20I matches.

Additionally, he was removed from the vice-captain post as Shubman Gill has been named the latest deputy in both white-ball formats.

Nevertheless, the former Indian vice-captain will be in action during the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting on July 26. Although he will miss the ODI leg, citing personal reasons.
