A certain breed of players has a knack for picking wickets at regular intervals. Shardul Thakur ranks among the top half of them, and young Tanzid Hasan became the latest victim of the right-arm pacer on Friday (September 15). He did the magic again with the new ball during India’s Asia Cup fixture against Bangladesh, taking place at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

The first ball of the fourth over of the innings that Thakur bowled was a short delivery outside the off stump. Tanzid attempted a pull shot, but a slight seam movement pulled the ball towards the stumps after the ball hit the bottom edge of the bat. As a result, the 22-year-old fell after scoring a 12-ball 13, laced with three fours.

Prior to this game in the Asia Cup, Shardul was employed as the third pacer for the Men in Blue. This time, in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, he got the opportunity to make the most out of the new ball. During their previous fixtures, he made a significant impact early in the Asia Cup against Nepal and Pakistan, and continued to perform magnificently against Bangladesh as well.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh are left reeling at 29/3 in six overs, with Shardul getting another wicket, of Anamul Haque's.
