The 44th game of World Cup 2023 between Pakistan and England is the last game for both the sides in this edition as Pakistan have a practically impossible chance to make it to the semis. England are already out of the World Cup but are battling hard for the Champions Trophy spot and have started decently with the bat at Eden Gardens.

Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow started off with a solid opening stand of 82 and though Malan departed, Bairstow scored a fifty. He too fell in the 19th over and Pakistan had a chance to create more inroads with Root and Stokes new at the crease. However, Shaheen Afridi spoiled a golden chance on the first delivery of the 25th over when he dropped a pretty straightforward catch of Ben Stokes off his own follow-through.

It was a fullish delivery on off and Ben Stokes drives it uppishly towards Shaheen Afridi who got his two hands to the ball but failed to grab it. As soon as he dropped the ball, it evoked a frustrating look on the face of not only Shaheen Afridi but also Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan behind the stumps.

Stokes is a big player and he can make Pakistan pay with his exuberant strokeplay as the man is coming into this game on the back of a fantastic century against the Netherlands.
