[Watch] Shaheen Afridi's Deadly Bouncer Gets The Better Of Steve Smith In MCG Test

On a day filled with ups and downs, Australia finished Day 3 of the ongoing Melbourne Test against Pakistan in the driver's set.

The first one-and-a-half sessions for Australia were quite worrisome, as Pakistan shorted their lead to 53 and then downed the home side to 16 for 4 in their second innings.

Former Australian skipper Steve Smith, along with maverick all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, pulled the hosts out of a deep ditch that helped Pat Cummins and Co. build up a healthy lead of 241 heading into Day 4.

Smith, who consolidated the innings and played a sheet-anchor role, slammed a gritty 176-ball 50 before falling to Shaheen Shah Afridi in the final over of the day. The 34-year-old's dismissal was unusual, where he found himself in an awkward position, only to lob a simple catch to Agha Salman stationed at the gully.

Peppered with a short ball by Afridi, Smith tried to fend off another slow bouncer, which, unfortunately for the star-batter, rose much more than expected and ballooned off the batter's glove to Salman, who pouched a simple catch.

Smith and Marsh added 153 runs for the fifth wicket, with the latter doing most of the scoring, contributing 96 runs from 130 balls.

As of writing, Australia are 187 for six at stumps on Day 3, leading Pakistan by 241 runs, with Alex Carey batting in the middle on 16, with players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Nathan Lyon still to bat.
