Shaheen Afridi is one of the leading bowlers in world cricket and when he is in his groove, he can run through best of the batting line-ups. However, his magic with the new ball has been missing in World Cup 2023 but he still managed to pick a five-wicket haul against the Aussies. In the game against Afghanistan, Afridi has once again delivered for his side when his team needed it the most by breaking a dangerous opening stand of 130 between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran. Gurbaz departed for a fine knock of 65 off 53 balls and it has opened up gates for Pakistan again as they try to defend the target of 283.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave the Afghans a perfect start, and both of them batted positively, neutralizing the threat of Pakistan pacers perfectly with the new ball. However, Shaheen Afridi is a bowler who bowls with lot of heart and he showed that once again by banging in short in the 22nd over, trying to extract anything possible from the Chepauk track. Gurbaz though saw it an opportunity to launch it over the fence and tried to pull it but got a big top edge. The ball flew towards the third man region and Usama Mir at there ran to his left and took a pretty good catch.

At the time of writing, Rahmat Shah has joined Ibrahim Zadran and they would be looking to consolidate on this start and take Afghanistan closer to a famous win in their cricketing history.
