Pakistan captain Babar Azam roared back into form with a scintillating 74 against Afghanistan in their must-win World Cup 2023 match in Chennai. The cricketer top-scored for his side as they ended up amassing 282-7 from their 50 overs.

Babar listed four boundaries and a six in his surgical knock against Afghanistan’s four-pronged spin attack on a turning Chennai surface. At one stage during the course of his innings, the batting veteran was seen respectfully denying any help from Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi while he was trying to tie up his shoelaces.

Pakistan’s batting maverick Babar Azam registered only his second 50-plus score of the 2023 World Cup by overcoming Afghanistan’s in-form spin attack in Chennai. Arriving to the crease immediately after the powerplay, the 29-year-old shared a crucial partnership with fellow half-centurion Abdullah Shafique, and followed it up by forming identical 40-plus stands with Saud Shakeel and Shadab Khan.

At one point through the course of his innings, Babar Azam attempted to tie up his shoelaces during a Mohammad Nabi over. The Afghanistan spinner approached the Pakistani captain for help, to which the latter respectfully declined and tied up his own shoelaces by removing his batting gloves instead.

Babar Azam’s threatening stay at the crease was eventually curtailed by 18-year-old Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmed at 74.

His innings allowed Shadab Khan and lower-order basher Iftikhar Ahmed to go berserk at the death as Pakistan surged to 282-7 from their 50 overs.
