Shaheen Afridi, one of Pakistan's finest players at present, was brilliant with the ball in hand on Monday during Pakistan's first ODI of the three-match series at MCG. In addition, he was excellent while his sharp presence of mind was required, and Sean Abbott, who paid the price for being casual, had no clue whatsoever regarding what exactly happened.
The incident happened during the 30th over of Australia's innings when Pat Cummins, the Australian skipper, was up against Shaheen. The Australian main man punched off the back foot through cover region to take a couple of runs, but tried to take an extra run after watching the big chase.
To make matters worse, Pakistan's vice-captain Agha Salman threw at non-striker's end. However, Shaheen knew the chance was there, and he, with all his power, threw at striker's end immidiately.
Abbott, who was batting on 13 off 19 balls, was well short of the crease when the stumps were broken. In fact, he did not even dive, as he did not anticipate the throw might come at him.
PAK vs AUS 1st ODI: Australia Win By 2 Wickets
Eventually, Pat Cummins' valiant 32* helped Australia register a hard-fought two-wicket victory over Pakistan. The Men in Green, courtesy of Haris Rauf's counterattack, tried as much as possible to defend a paltry 203-run total, but it all went in vain.
Pakistan and Australia will next meet in Adelaide on November 8, with Mohammad Rizwan and Co aiming to keep the series alive.
