Riding on fighting fifties from Logan van Beek and Sybrand Engelbrecht, the Netherlands posted a respectable total of 262 in their ongoing World Cup clash against Sri Lanka.

In response, the Lankans had a shaky start before Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama stitched a quick-fire stand to put them in the driving seat. However, experienced pacer Paul van Meekeren jolted the Lankans with a massive blow, dismissing Nissanka in the 17th over.

Opening the batting for Sri Lanka, Nissanka raced to 54 runs off just 51 balls before falling prey to Van Meekeren. It was a good length delivery, as Nissanka tried to cut it behind the square.

However, he only managed to get an outside edge, as the ball flew to Scott Edwards behind the wicket. The Dutch skipper moved towards his right and grabbed a spectacular catch, showcasing commendable athleticism.

After Nissanka's departure, swashbuckling southpaw Charith Asalanka joined the middle to steady the Lankan ship alongside Samarawickrama. As of writing, Sri Lanka are 113 for three in 20 overs, with Samarawickrama and Asalanka batting on 27* and 4*, respectively.

Led by stand-in captain Kusal Mendis, Sri Lanka are winless in the competition and need 150 more runs to secure their first victory in the World Cup 2023.
