[Watch] Adil Rashid Outfoxes Dangerous Rassie Van Der Dussen With Classic Leg-Break

Rassie van der Dussen horribly miscued his attempted slog sweep and handed Jonny Bairstow an absolute sitter at the short mid-wicket region during the important ICC World Cup 2023 fixture played on Saturday (October 21) in Mumbai.

Dussen top-edged his sweep to offer one of the easiest catching opportunities of the ongoing tournament at the Wankhede Stadium, which Bairstow duly accepted to provide England a critical breakthrough in the 20th over of the innings.

The South African right-hander was done in by a conventional leg-spinner from experienced tweaker Adil Rashid, who got the ball to dip on the batter and made him fetch the ball from outside the off-stump. The angle of the stroke alongside extravagant turn on the ball meant Dussen's attempted maximum could only fall into the hands of the mid-wicket fielder.

The batter got a thick leading edge to offer Bairstow the most comfortable catching chance of the competition. Unlike Pakistan wristspinner Usama Mir, who shelved a sitter from Aussie left-hander David Warner on Friday, Bairstow gave the critics and trolls no fodder by dropping a dolly.

Dussen Goes After Bairstow Takes A Sitter

Batting on 60 after a commanding display at the crease, Dussen tried to further pile on the pressure on England by going after their lead wristspinner Rashid, who was up to task and stuck to his strengths by unleashing the conventional leg-spinner that evaded the batter's downswing.

The spongy nature of the bounce at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai meant the ball from Rashid avoided the sweet spot on Dussen's willow and ballooned off the top-edge towards the mid-wicket region where Bairstow made an easy feast of the wicket-taking opportunity.

The dismissal of Dussen allowed England to claw their way back into the contest after the Proteas had raced along to 125/1 from 19.4 overs. As always, it was Rashid, their renowned wicket-taker, who provided his team a much-needed breather from the assault that the South African No.3 dished out against them.

Dussen was shaping up for another brilliant hundred next to his name when Rashid sent him back to the shed and gave Three Lions a wonderful opportunity to build further inroads in their critical league-stage encounter.
