In a display of absolute class and finesse, Ruturaj Gaikwad anchored India to a competitive 180 against Ireland in the second T20I at The Village in Dublin on Sunday.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s sublime 58 put India in firm control

Diverging from his usual explosive avatar, Gaikwad melded caution with class and laid a robust foundation for his team with a composed half-century.

Although Gaikwad is known for his explosive batting, today's innings saw him adopt a steadier role. He acted as the perfect anchor, ensuring stability while dispatching any loose deliveries with sheer elegance.

The right-hander's gallery of strokes - from elegant drives to deft pulls was nothing short of an exhibition as it drew admiration from fans and experts alike.

Meanwhile, the early part of the innings saw Gaikwad stitch a 29-run partnership with his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, it was the 71-run partnership with Sanju Samson that set the tone for India's total.

Throughout these stands, Gaikwad displayed restraint as his partners played the role of aggressors. His well-judged fifty came off a sweep shot, but not before delighting the crowd with a six off spinner Benjamin White.

Yet, just as he seemed set for a big score, Barry McCarthy's slower delivery outfoxed him, resulting in his dismissal at 58 from 43 balls, a knock that included six boundaries and a solitary maximum.

India's total of 185/5 was further boosted by valuable contributions from Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube. The onus is now on Ireland's batting line-up to step up against India's strong bowling attack, especially if they aim to level the series at 1-1.
