BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has provided insights into the unlikely prospect of the Hyderabad Cricket Association's (HCA) recent request to modify the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup schedule, indicating that rescheduling is improbable.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association has recently dispatched a letter to the BCCI, seeking a gap between two consecutive games slated for back-to-back days.

This request arrives belatedly, prompted by concerns raised by the Hyderabad Police and local authorities, who have communicated to the HCA that hosting consecutive matches might impede their capacity to ensure adequate security for the Pakistan team.

The match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is scheduled for October 10 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Uppal. Just a day earlier, on October 9, the ODI World Cup 2023 encounter between the Netherlands and New Zealand is scheduled.

Initially set for October 12, the Pakistan match was moved up a day to provide the Men in Green with more recovery time before their game against arch-rivals India on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

'It's unlikely to happen'- Rajiv Shukla on WC rescheduling

"I am in charge of the Hyderabad venue for WC. If there will be any issue or anything, will try to get it resolved. It is not easy to change the World Cup schedule and it's unlikely to happen. Only BCCI can't change schedule, teams, ICC, all involved,"  Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying by the news agency Press Trust of India (PTI).

Notably, the BCCI, in collaboration with the participating nations and the ICC, recently rearranged nine fixtures to accommodate various schedules and alleviate security apprehensions.

As a result, the Pakistan-Sri Lanka match was rescheduled from its initial date of October 12 to October 10. This development arises a mere five days before the initiation of ticket sales for the first phase of the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup, commencing on August 25.

The Hyderabad Cricket Association is entrusted with hosting three out of the 45 matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
