Ruturaj Gaikwad pumped out 123 of his finest runs against Australia in Guwahati in the third T20I of their five-match series. Opening the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and finding himself at the hub of India’s recovery at 24-2, the cricketer formed counterattacking partnerships with captain Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma to blaze his side past the 200-run mark.

Gaikwad himself faced just 57 deliveries in the innings, and belted 13 of them for boundaries and seven of them for scorching sixes.

While the 26-year-old treated every Australian bowler with utter disdain, the elegant right-hander took a special liking to young fast bowler Aaron Hardie.

Ruturaj Gaikwad whacks Hardie for three sixes

Facing Aaron Hardie in the 17th over of the Indian innings, Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad pumped the Australian speedster over long-off for a huge six. The cricketer blasted two more maximums off the same over, along with a scintillating boundary towards long-on to accumulate 24 runs in a space of just six deliveries.

Overall, Ruturaj Gaikwad thumped seven sixes and raced to his career-best T20I score of 123* from just 57 balls. His innings turbo-charged the Indian total to a colossal 222-3, leading team’s recovery from 24-2 at one stage.

Interestingly, a year ago on this same day, Gaikwad blasted seven sixes off a single over against Uttar Pradesh in a List A Vijay Hazare Trophy game for Maharashtra.

Apart from his love-affair with November 28, the 26-year-old also pounded the Australian attack with a dazzling 58 in the previous game of the ongoing series to help India mount 235-4 upfront. The innings turned out to be a match-defining one as the ‘Men in Blue’ prevailed in the contest by 44 runs.
