Two batters - Kane Williamson and Babar Azam - have been crucial for the respective sides' success and will square off against each other when New Zealand and Pakistan clash on a five-T20Is series, which starts tomorrow (January 12). Ahead of the first T20I in Auckland, Williamson, who is leading the Black Caps, spoke about the threat that Azam possesses and called the former Pakistan captain 'world-class'.

Since the past few months, Azam has been undergoing a rut and failed to perform in the recently concluded Tests in Australia, which is a cause of concern for Pakistan, who rely heavily on the star-batter churning out runs.

As quoted by Cricket Pakistan, Williamson stated that Azam remains a big-threat form or no-form and did not heed much into Pakistan's poor outing in Australia.

He [Babar] is a world class player - Kane Williamson

“He [Babar] is a world class player. Cricket comes with a full range of feeling and emotions and part of it is navigating each day and looking to improve. He is one of the best players in the world and I am sure he will be doing that and that doesn’t change overnight. We know he is a big threat.

"Pakistan is always a fantastic opportunity. They are consistently one of the best teams in the world and in all conditions, so to have them to have them here in our backyard and having another contest is great."

Both players share excellent camaraderie off the field and have often been seen praising each other on several occasions, with Azam even calling Williamson his favourite amongst the modern-day maestros.
