The Indian team took field against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with an aim to sustain their unbeaten World Cup 2023 run on November 2. Local boy and team captain Rohit Sharma took first guard at the crease after Sri Lanka skipper Kusal Mendis had won the toss and opted to field first.

Amidst much buzz echoing throughout the capacity Wankhede Stadium, captain Sharma got his stumps shattered all over the place by searing Lankan new-ball speedster Dilshan Madushanka in just the second ball of the match.

Rohit Sharma’s dismissal hushes Wankhede, wife Ritika

As has been a norm for all Team India matches in the ongoing 2023 World Cup, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai bore witness to a capacity crowd for team’s high-profile standoff against continental rivals Sri Lanka on October 2. One of the prominent attendees at the venue was Ritika Sajdeh, wife of Indian captain and local boy Rohit Sharma.

Unfortunately for Ritika and the rest of the Indian supporters at the stadium, Sharma was castled by Sri Lankan fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka in just the second ball of the match.

Nonetheless, Rohit Sharma’s early departure made way for another crowd-favorite Virat Kohli into the crease. The batting veteran joined Shubman Gill, as the two cricketers attempt to lead India’s recovery.

Notably, Team India has pretty much already qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing 2023 World Cup, considering they have won each of their six fixtures in the tournament so far. A win over Sri Lanka at this stage will help them displace South Africa from the top of the World Cup 2023 points table.
