Indian captain Rohit Sharma staged a remarkable resurgence in the third T20 International against Afghanistan at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Rohit, who had a subdued start in the series with two consecutive ducks, turned the tables with a scintillating century off 64 balls.

The match unfolded with India in a dismal position, slumping to 22/4 within the first five overs. During this critical juncture, Rohit adopted a strategic approach, cautiously navigating the early part of his innings. His patience paid off as he notched up a well-made half-century off 41 balls.

However, post reaching his fifty, Rohit shifted gears dramatically, unleashing his signature aggressive style. He ruthlessly dominated the Afghan bowling attack, dispatching the ball to all corners of the ground. His innovation was on full display, particularly with the execution of reverse sweeps, a shot that he doesn’t generally play.

After reaching his half-century, Rohit's subsequent fifty runs blazed off his bat in a mere 23 balls, propelling him to his fifth T20I century in just 64 deliveries. He brought up his ton by slicing Azmatullah Omarzai’s ball over point for a boundary.

This knock not only highlighted his batting brilliance but also etched his name as the batsman with the most T20I centuries, going past Suryakumar Yadav and Glenn Maxwell.

In the final over, Rohit's onslaught continued unabated, as he smashed 17 runs off the three balls he faced, further intensifying Afghanistan's challenge. His partnership with Rinku Singh was crucial in transforming the game's complexion.

Together, they stitched a monumental 190-run stand, elevating India's score from a shaky 22/4 to a formidable 212/4. Rohit remained unbeaten on 121 off 69 balls (11 fours, eight sixes) whereas Rinku remained not out on 69 off 33 balls (2 fours, six sixes).
