Things are heating up at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as India and Australia face off in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. On Day 2, Steve Smith and Pat Cummins resumed their innings with Smith on 68 and Cummins on 8. The duo started strong, with Smith cruising towards a century, while Cummins also hit a few boundaries.
However, Cummins’ knock came to an end in the 105th over when India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja bowled. It was Nitish Kumar Reddy who took a stunning catch at mid-off to send Cummins back for 49, just one run shy of a deserved half-century.
Cummins had tried to hit Jadeja for a big shot, but the bat turned in his hands, and the ball flew towards the mid-off region. Reddy, running to his left, dove to make a superb catch with both hands, getting a round of applause from the crowd as Cummins walked off.
Australia Dominate On Day 1
Australia started strong after opting to bat first. Debutant Sam Konstas stole the spotlight with his fearless approach, taking on Jasprit Bumrah and hitting some audacious shots. He smashed a quick 60 runs off 65 balls before being dismissed by Jadeja.
Khawaja and Labuschagne followed with a solid 50-run partnership, but Bumrah’s quick strikes saw Khawaja and Labuschagne dismissed. Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh also fell cheaply, but Smith and Cummins steadied the ship.
At the time of writing, Australia are at 440 for 7 in 110 overs.
