In the ongoing first ODI between India women and New Zealand women, Smriti Mandhana's decision to bat first has not looked good, as the hosts have lost four early wickets. 

Stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana was the first one to depart as she returned to the pavilion with a score of 5 (7). Nonetheless, Shafali Verma was unfazed by the wicket and continued with her aggressive approach. It is worth noting that Harmanpreet is not a part of the ongoing match as she has suffered a nigle and is likely to take part in the series from 2nd match. 

Verma was looking good and amassed 33 (22), but threw her wicket off a loose shot. Verma was looking to put on a big score as he had smashed five fours and a solitary six but fell prey to Eden Carson. 

Verma Falls To A Poor Delivery

On the 3rd ball of the 7th over, Carson bowled a short-pitched delivery that was meant to be hit for a big shot. However, Carson got lucky, and Shafali gave a simple catch to the fielder placed at short-leg. 


At the time of writing this article, India women are 107/4. Carson has been the pick of the bowler as she also got rid of Dayalan Hemalatha. 

India Eye Revenge Against New Zealand

Notably, India would be eyeing revenge against New Zealand as the White Ferns handed them an embarrassing defeat in their tournament opener in the recently concluded Women's T20 World Cup 2024. While New Zealand eventually went on to win the tournament, they had ten straight defeats before the start of the World Cup, and India were the clear favourite.
