Babar gets support from Gillespie [Source: @mufaddal_vohra/X.Com]
Pakistan head coach, Jason Gillespie has come out to lend his support to out of form and out of squad player, Babar Azam. The talented cricketer has been woefully out of form this year and he now finds himself out of the Test reckoning after a series of low scores.
Babar hasn't scored a Test fifty since December 2022 (18 Tests), and as a result was dropped from the second and third Test Vs England, a decision which eventually worked for Pakistan. Due to his poor form and constant pressure, the 30-year-old stepped away from the white-ball captaincy as well.
With no support from PCB, or from his teammates, Jason Gillespie, the head coach of the Pakistan Test team has come out to hail the former skipper, calling him "one of the best in the world." Gillespie reckons that Babar will find a way through the tough phase and will once again score truckloads of runs.
“Babar Azam is a fine player, and I think he’s one of the best players in the world, and he had a bit of a lean patch, but I don’t think there’s many great players around that have never had a lean patch, and I’m very confident Babar will be back scoring a lot of runs for Pakistan in all formats,” Gillespie told Sky Sports.
Pakistan still unsure about Babar's place in the Test team
Despite performing decently in the 50-over format, Babar's numbers have massively declined in Test cricket. He last scored a Test fifty Vs New Zealand, almost 2 years ago and since then has not had any match-winning contributions.
The former skipper had a poor series against Bangladesh, where he only managed to score 64 runs in 4 innings. Moreover, after another failure in the 1st Test Vs England, the PCB selectors decide to axe him from the remaining two Tests. Now, as per reports, PCB are unsure about Babar's place in the Test side.
