Quinton de Kock had an opportunity to finish things off for South Africa after coming to chase a  below-par target of 78 in Match 4 of the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. However, the swashbuckling left-handed batter fell in one of the softest of dismissals of the career, and no wonder, Wanindu Hasaranga leaped in joy after bagging that prized wicket.

It was the fifth ball of the 11th over of South Africa’s innings, and de Kock, batting on 20 off 27 balls, played a flighted delivery outside the off stump straight back to Hasaranga. The Sri Lankan captain completed arguably the easiest catch of his life without any disturbance, and immediately after, he went for a roaring celebration by punching in the air.

In fact, Hasaranga, the highest wicket-taker of the previous two editions of the T20 World Cup, got another wicket later on, as Tristan Stubbs became his second victim.

At the time of writing this, South Africa are moments away from the victory. They only require three runs off the final 24 balls, with six wickets in hand.
