Glenn Phillips turned the tide for New Zealand in the Champions Trophy opener against Pakistan at National Stadium in Karachi. He unleashed his power-hitting capacity in the death overs. Philips explosive stroke play left Pakistan’s bowler frustrated, with Mohammad Rizwan even covering his face in disbelief after Phillips launched back-to-back sixes off Shaheen Afridi in the 47th over.

Glenn Phillips Unleashes Fiery Mode

The carnage began with 69-meter six over deep square leg as Glenn Phillips cleared his front leg and swung powerfully across the line. Despite not timing it perfectly, the ball sailed over the fielder for a maximum. On the very next delivery, Phillips went full beast mode, picking up a short-length delivery over deep midwicket for another towering six, pushing New Zealand towards a big total.

The frustration was evident on the faces of Shaheen Afridi and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, who covered his face in disappointment after witnessing Phillips’ brutal hitting. The Kiwi batter’s counterattack shifted the momentum and put Pakistan’s bowlers on the back foot. Watch the video here:

Young And Latham's Centuries Revive New Zealand

Earlier in the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Their bowlers started strong, with Abrar Ahmed dismissing Devon Conway, followed by Naseem Shah removing Kane Williamson cheaply. Daryl Mitchell’s wicket left the Kiwis in trouble. However, Will Young's brilliant century helped New Zealand to stabilise the innings before Naseem struck again to end his stay.

After Young’s departure, Tom Latham stepped up with a century, and Phillips’ quick-fire half-century injected much needed acceleration into New Zealand’s innings. At the time of writing, New Zealand are back on track, and has posted formidable total of 320 runs.
