New Zealand opener Will Young delivered a sensational performance in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan, scoring a well-crafted century at the Karachi Stadium. The 32-year-old showcased his class and temperament, bringing up his fourth ODI century and his first in this prestigious tournament.
However, his valiant knock came to an end in the 38th over, courtesy of a brilliant piece of fielding by Faheem Ashraf.
Will Young's Century Comes To An End
Young anchored the Kiwi innings despite early setbacks, but was dismissed on a length delivery from Naseem Shah. The ball, angling into the batter, saw Young attempt an across-the-line slog, but his lack of footwork led to a mistimed shot off the inner half of the bat. The ball soared high towards deep square leg, where Faheem Ashraf sprinted across and executed a superb sliding catch.
The Pakistani team erupted in celebration, while the New Zealand batter received a standing ovation from the Karachi crowd.
Earlier in the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first, looking to exploit the conditions. Their bowlers struck early, applying pressure on the Kiwi lineup.
Abrar Ahmed dismissed Devon Conway, handing Pakistan an early breakthrough. Naseem Shah then removed Kane Williamson cheaply, worsening New Zealand’s struggles. Daryl Mitchell departed for just 10 runs, putting the Black Caps on the back foot.
At the time of writing, New Zealand stands at 258/4 in 45.2 overs, with Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips at the crease.
