Experienced batter KL Rahul failed to convert his start into a significant score as a controversial decision made him to walk back to the dugout in the first innings of the ongoing Perth Test between India and Australia. Opening the batting for India, Rahul managed only 26 runs before Mitchell Starc got his prized scalp.

The incident occurred during the 23rd over of India's first innings when KL Rahul was trying to form a consolidating stand along with Rishabh Pant following Virat Kohli's dismissal. However, Mitchell Starc had other ideas, as he struck for the second time to draw the fourth blood for the Aussies.

From over the wicket, Starc bowled a good length delivery that shaped away from Rahul after pitching around the off and middle stump line. As Rahul tried to play a defensive shot, the ball went past his outside edge, with Alex Carey collecting it behind the stumps.

As soon as Carey caught the ball, the Australian players appealed for a caught behind, but the on-field umpire decided in Rahul's favour. As the hosts were convinced of an outside edge, their captain Pat Cummins went upstairs to challenge the decision.

Despite Rahul's bat hitting the pad and no conclusive evidence being available, the TV umpire asked his on-field colleague to reverse the decision. As per the rules, an on-field decision can be overturned only when there's a conclusive evidence in favour of the bowling side. Thus, Rahul was unlucky and furiously left the ground with disappointment.

India Lose Four Men Before Lunch On Day 1

After India's stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and opted to bat first, the Australian pacers exploited the pace-friendly conditions to rock India with some early breakthroughs. While Padikkal and Jaiswal departed for ducks, Kohli managed to add only five runs to the Indian total. At lunch on day 1, India were tottering at 51 for four, with Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant batting on 4* and 10*, respectively.
