Sophie Ecclestone, the No. 1 bowler in the world, made a significant impact on Monday (March 11) in Match 18 of the WPL 2024 between Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz, taking place at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
In fact, the left-arm spinner went on to take her wicket tally to 11, surpassing Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp to take the Purple Cap.
The English-born cricketer first outfoxed Dayalan Hemalatha, who took the world by storm in their previous fixture against Mumbai Indians with a swashbuckling 74-run knock.
After that, she dismissed Kathryn Bryce and Tanuja Kanwar in the space of four deliveries, making RCB supporters’ lives difficult.
While Hemalatha was stumped by wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy, Bryce holed out to Chamari Athapaththu. Then, at the end of the 18th over of Gujarat’s innings, Kanwar was cleaned up by the 24-year-old.

However, there’s good news for RCB as of now. The Warriorz, at the time of writing, have slipped to 21/4 after 4.5 overs, requiring 132 runs from 91 balls. RCB would love to see UP lose, considering that they have a fixture against Mumbai Indians to come, in which they have to win to confirm their place in the playoffs.
