In what can only be described as a spectacular display of power-hitting, Rahkeem Cornwall's blitzkrieg set the tone for Barbados Royals in their high-scoring contest against Saint Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Match 10 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023.

Cornwall's heroics propelled Barbados Royals to first win

With the Royals chasing a hefty target of 198, Cornwall's explosive innings proved to be the catalyst for their eventual triumph.

Barbados skipper Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bowl first. While the Patriots managed to put up a big total, largely thanks to contributions from Andre Fletcher (51 off 38 balls) and Corbin Bosch (38 off 12 balls), it was Cornwall's performance with the bat that stole the limelight.

Opening alongside Kyle Mayers, Cornwall laid into the Patriots' bowling attack, stitching together a quickfire 58-run partnership in the powerplay. He dominated the bowlers from the get-go, commencing his onslaught with a six off Ashmead Nedd.

The explosive batter then took on Colin Bosch with two more enormous hits over the ropes. However, it was his colossal six against Oshane Thomas that was the talk of the evening.

By the time Dominic Drakes managed to halt Cornwall's charge, the damage was done. Cornwall had decisively swung the momentum Barbados's way by scoring a quickfire 38 runs off just 15 balls, which included three boundaries and four sixes.

Though Cornwall was dismissed early in the chase, his early blitz allowed the likes of Jason Holder, Alick Athanaze, and Rovman Powell to capitalize on the platform laid, ultimately guiding Barbados Royals to their first win of the season with nine balls and six wickets remaining.

This marked the first victory for the Royals, leaving the Patriots still in search of their inaugural win after five matches.
