Rachin Ravindra made headlines on Thursday (October 5) in the World Cup 2023 opener between England and New Zealand, taking place at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The Kiwi all-rounder, coming to bat at No. 3, raced to 39 runs off 26 balls as New Zealand posted 73/1 in nine overs after coming to chase 283.

Among Ravindra’s audacious shots, the one the 23-year-old smacked against Mark Wood caught a lot of attention. It was Wood’s first over of the day, and Ravindra showed no respect to the express pacer, tallying 17 runs off his six deliveries.

It was a short delivery clocked at 148 kph by Wood which was going towards Ravindra’s body. The Kiwi pulled it nonchalantly, and the timing of the shot took it over deep mid wicket.

Wood, known for being the quickest fast bowler across the world, could not believe what just happened. On the other hand, when Ravindra made a stunning shot with perfect timing and seemed unconcerned about his quick pace, the crowd went wild.

At the time of writing, New Zealand are going strong, batting on 92/1 in 10.5 overs. Ravindra is batting on 47* off 32 balls, while Devon Conway is on 44* off 32 deliveries.
