Indian captain Rohit Sharma was at his animated best following his dismissal against New Zealand at the 2023 World Cup semi-final. The dashing opening batsman, after blazing through the likes of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner with his thunderous 29-ball 47, was spotted yearning at the dressing room to pass on a message to on-strike batters Shubman Gill and number three Virat Kohli.
Rohit's fellow senior teammate Ravichandran Ashwin eventually relayed the same to Gill and Kohli, and the video of the whole deed was shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on their social media platforms.
R Ashwin passes Sharma’s message to Kohli, Gill
Rohit Sharma bludgeoned four boundaries and four sixes at the top in his 29-ball 47 to form a 71-run opening stand with Shubman Gill. His aggressive onslaught allowed Gill and number three Virat Kohli to anchor the Indian innings thereafter, and the two cricketers fittingly stitched up their own fifty-plus partnership.
Interestingly, during the 21st over of Indian innings, captain Sharma was spotted at the dressing room yearning to pass on a message to the two on-strike batters. His teammate and leading all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin eventually relayed the same to Gill and Virat Kohli during a drinks break following the end of the over.
While the contents of the message are yet to be determined, Kohli seems to have followed the instructions as he marched towards his eighth fifty-plus score of the tournament.
