Mohammad Amir recently lashed out at Babar Azam for poor captaincy after the team's crashing exit from the 2023 World Cup semi-final race. During an appearance on national TV, the former Pakistan speedster even came close to hurling abuse as he dished out his criticism. Realising his fumble, Amir instantly apologised for his near over-the-line outburst.

While assessing Pakistan's performance at the 2023 World Cup, Mohammad Amir was asked by the TV show host if he thinks the PCB system needs changing or if the captain himself should be replaced. The former cricketer claimed that the system has always been the same and cited the example of Pakistan's historic 2017 Champions Trophy win.

Amir said that he was asked to play in the 2017 final against India by then captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and then coach Mickey Arthur, even though Rumman Raees had done well in the semi-finals.

While making his point, the pace maverick nearly hurled abuse before instantly apologising upon realising his mistake. The 31-year-old said:

“I was injured because of a back spasm in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Rumman replaced me and did well. I got fit and played in the finals because Mickey Arthur and Saifi Bhai said that Amir would win the match. Kya system ne kaha tha behen ki…. sorry.”

Mohammad Amir went on to single out current captain Babar Azam, opining that the cricketer should be removed from the top post.

Amir said it is the captain's job to change the system and cited the examples of former England white-ball skipper Eoin Morgan and current Test leader Ben Stokes for changing the dynamics of English cricket after setbacks under preceding managements.
