The Barbados Royals are taking on the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 18th match of the CPL 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Rovman Powell, the captain of the the Barbados Royals won the toss ahead of the game and put the Patriots to bat. Naveen ul Haq got the Royals off to a great start as he picked up the wickets of Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers within the powerplay.

Rahkeem Cornwall destroyed the Patriots with the ball

With the early loss of two key batters, the Patriots were banking on their skipper, Andre Fletcher, to anchor the innings. However, their hopes were dashed when Rahkeem Cornwall dismissed Fletcher on the first ball of his spell, followed by the wicket of Mikyle Louis on the next delivery.

Rahkeem Cornwall's spell was a game-changer for the Royals. His early double wicket set the tone for the match, and he continued to wreak havoc among the Patriots' batters, ultimately finishing with a remarkable five wickets for 16 runs from his four overs.

The devastating spell by the West Indian all-rounder left the Patriots in deep trouble. A late fight by Joshua da Silva and Anrich Nortje got them past the 100-mark. The Patriots managed to reach 110 before they were bundled out on the first ball of the last over in their innings.

De Kock got the Royals off to a good start

The Royals sent Kadeem Alleyne to open with the man in form, Quinton de Kock. While Alleyne played second fiddle at one end, de Kock decided to take the attack to the bowlers from the beginning of his innings.

De Kock is fresh off a century in the tournament, and his class oozed from the shots he played to get the Royals propelling towards the moderate target. His class was evident from his shot against his fellow countryman, Anrich Nortje, in the fourth over of the innings.

On the third delivery of the over, Nortje bowled a full delivery at the middle and leg stump. De Kock spotted the length early and whipped it away over mid-wicket for a maximum. The timing of the shot was brilliant, and the ball sailed away to the solar panels of the Kensington Oval.

Before this, de Kock decimated Kyle Mayers with a six and a four in the previous over. The maximum hit by de Kock against Mayers was a classy lofted drive over the point region.
