The Barbados Royals are playing against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 18th match of the CPL 2024. The game is being played at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Rovman Powell, the skipper of the Barbados Royals, won the toss ahead of the game and decided to field first. The Patriots failed to get off to a good start, losing Evin Lewis and Kyle Mayers to Naveen ul Haq within the powerplay.

With the fall of the two heavyweight top-order batters, the onus was on skipper Andre Fletcher to guide the team to a fighting total. However, Rahkeem Cornwall had other plans. The West Indian all-rounder was making a comeback for the Royals after he was dropped in the previous game due to poor form.

Cornwall picked up back to back wickets in the eighth over

Cornwall is generally known for his powerful batting in the powerplay. However, in this game, he decided to display his bowling prowess. Cornwall started with the wicket of Andre Fletcher on the first delivery of the eighth over. He followed this up with the wicket of Mikyle Louis off the very next delivery.

Alick Athanaze helped Cornwall to pick up a five-fer with a brilliant catch

Cornwall did not stop with two wickets in the first over. He picked up three more and ended his spell with five wickets for just 16 runs in his four overs. The fifth wicket to fall off his bowling was Ryan John. It took an acrobatic effort from Alick Athanaze to send John back to the hut.

On the second delivery of the 14th over, Cornwall bowled a tossed-up delivery at the off stump. John came down the track and tried to heave the ball over the mid-wicket fence. However, all he got was a top edge. Alick Athanaze, who was stationed in the deep, initially overran the ball, but he corrected himself quickly and put in a fabulous dive to take the catch.

At the time of writing, the Patriots are stationed at 109/9 in 18.5 overs.
